If I pause a song in pianobar for more than a few minutes, when I unpause it will play for a few moments, then I get a series of errors like this:

/!\ Decoding error: Bitstream value not allowed by specification
/!\ Decoding error: Bitstream value not allowed by specification
/!\ Decoding error: Bitstream value not allowed by specification
/!\ Decoding error: Bitstream value not allowed by specification
/!\ Decoding error: Bitstream value not allowed by specification
/!\ Decoding error: Bitstream value not allowed by specification
/!\ Buffer overflow!

Then it skips on to the next song. Not a huge deal, but it stinks when I have to pause a really good song :).

I don't think I'm behind a proxy; I don't have to configure anything proxy-wise. As for audio format, I'm using whatever is default. I haven't configured anything special.

Sorry not to have gotten back to you on this. I have noticed it only happens at work, not at home, so I suspect it has something to do with our firewall, which may actually be proxying. Maybe this is a non-issue for pianobar.

The mp3 may no longer be available if you pause for too long. Pianobar is much better than the offician client from my experience because it does not download the entire song all at once, it asks for it in little pieces. This makes using it on an embedded device much easier and it reduces the load/memory use on the system. Of course less buffer means less robustness with intermittent network connectivity.

I have noticed that if a song is pause for a while and then unpause, pianobar will play a bit of the song and then pause for a while, then continue playing the song again.

I will open a separate bug if necessary.

A possible solution would be to bench the download speed and download "chunks" accordingly.

I see this sometimes. It's usually only when I've paused for 10+ minutes. I just assumed that it was nothing to care about and when I've put it on pause for a long time, I've gotten into the habit of instead of pressing p to unpause, press n to go to the next song. It'll error on each song in the play list and just move on to the next play list without troubles. I am behind a proxy.

I can reproduce this pretty easily if you'd like me doing any debugging. It's not something that really bothers me, but I'm sure up for helping fix things.

This issue is happening to me as well. I'm not behind an HTTP proxy. Coming back and unpausing, it will chill for a while, then I usually get bored with the silence and ^C and restart.
