F14 Xorg/Kde seems to be much more stable on Nvidia cards -- I just installed a baremetal F14 (my new devel machine for rpm building) on my Mac Pro with NVidia card and I'm very happy with the system stability etc (which was horrible on baremetal F13!).

Perhaps we should also upgrade to F14 in Dom0. While we can upgrade to KDE 4.6 anyway, I think that the Xorg & xorg-drv upgrade might be worth trying...?

What possible problems with might got into?

  • Lack of /usr/bin/perl26? Can we just symlink it?
  • Something else?

We might benefit from updated components such as plymouth in F14 (see #125).

On stability: this is just nouveau driver, which is IMHO not usable at all yet (ex. switch to text console forces me to hard reset machine, it didn't survive suspend, etc). On nvidia binary driver works like a charm (F13 in dom0).

I've tried nouveau 0.0.16_pre20101130 (newer than in F14) few weeks ago on another machine (not F14, Gentoo) and still doesn't works stable (ex. crashes when connected secondary display).

Yeah, the nouveau still stucks in F14. Particularly when I tried to resume from suspend to RAM... Gee!

So, let's stay with F13 in Dom0. We still gonna update KDE there, so from the user's perspecive there should really be no difference.

BTW, Marek, you said you would wrote a short HOWTO in our Wiki on installing Nvidia's original driver under Qubes...
