It would be a nice feature if entries in the Qubes Docs showed the date of the last update or a tag (preferably bright and colorful) showing which of the docs were updated within the last 3 days, a week, a month etc. This will prevent users from missing out on useful information because it was added to an entry that has already been read by users.

I suggest you at least add a "Date last updated" and always set it when a doc entry is created. There are many doc pages that are old and outdated, but there is no way to tell what is new or old as there are no dates at all now.

Even if you don't update existing doc pages establishing the above convention prevents the problem from getting worse.

You can simply click the "View Page Source" link on any documentation page and immediately the date of the most recent commit that modified that page's source file.

This question comes up occasionally, most recently: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/qubes-users/2MKKopsFYUw so opening this issue for discussion (apologies if it has been dealt with elsewhere).

Would it be possible / desirable for the sidebar that already shows "view page source / edit page / how to contribute" to show the date of the last commit? Yes, the user can click "view page source" to get onto github and look at the commit history, but this assumes a basic understanding of what will be found under "view page source" / github interface.

While showing such a date would not be as useful as on say medical websites where "article written" and "last reviewed" dates are often provided (as a commit may only very minimally change a page) it would give the user some idea as to the "freshness" of the content. I would see the displayed date most usefully being a hyperlink to the list of commits for that page.

Unsure of whether this is feasible with jekkyl / github pages, length of issue at jekyll/jekyll#2260 does not give off good vibes in terms of quick and easy...

I would love to do this. However, like you, I haven't found a way to generate the timestamps with Jekyll or GitHub pages. If anyone finds a way, please let us know.
