The expectation is that this would be documented here: https://www.qubes-os.org/doc/multiboot/

Just as 64-bit is becoming more popular than 32-bit, UEFI/GPT is becoming more popular than BIOS/MBR.

Please document how to add more OSs to GNU GRUB on the EFI System Partition (ESP).

@tutaleedoo @andrewdavidwong
How many guides should be written for now, just windows and linux? Or do I also have to add other things like *bsd`s for example.

Also how do you want me to add the new information to the multiboot page. Do we just add the EFI specific information to the bottem, or do we for example make paragraph about windows where both efi and legacy will be explained

@blacklight447, thanks for taking this on!

I'm just a user, but since I filed this issue: I'd be fine if we just had guides for Windows and Linux for now. My preference would be to have a section on GRUB, and under that a subsection for legacy and a subsection for EFI.

@andrewdavidwong, what are your thoughts?

I tried looking into this, but bumped into a couple issues: os-prober cannot be installed in dom0 (setting things up manually feels hacky and error prone, which is why I wanted to use os-prober). To get around that issue, I tried booting a LiveCD of a different OS, but then ran into the issue that the Qubes OS partition is encrypted; therefore, I assume it would not be detected by os-prober.

I've never had occasion to do anything like this, so I'm afraid I have no intuitions about what kind of documentation users would expect to see about this. Please use your best judgment or consider soliciting feedback on qubes-users from users who would consume this documentation.

@andrewdavidwong I see, I will soon make a post on the qubes-users list for feedback on this as you suggested, and write it according to that feedback. Also, I asked you about how you want the information added, like I explained above, do you want to seperate sections for bios and efi, or do you want that I for example write a paragraph for windows, where both efi and bios get explained.

Again, I've never had occasion to do anything like this, so I'm afraid I have no intuitions about what kind of documentation users would expect to see about this. Both approaches sound reasonable from an abstract point of view, but it might be a good idea to think about what you, as a user, would find most helpful.
