Correction: is doesn't work if the file has a space followed by a '#' character, e.g.: "invoice #4.doc".

Looks like a bug in mimeopen... Calling manually:

mimeopen -n -M '/tmp/test #1.pdf'

fails, while

evince '/tmp/test #1.pdf'

succeeded.
