qubes-sync-time.service systemd unit file failing, Request refused, qrexec policy issue? #4097

R4

Affected component(s):

Debian, Whonix, others untested


Steps to reproduce the behavior:

Just boot.

Expected behavior:

No systemd unit failing message in journal.

Actual behavior:

systemd unit failing message in journal.

General notes:

Jul 17 08:44:36 host systemd[1]: Started Update time from ClockVM.
Jul 17 08:44:36 host qvm-sync-clock[1822]: Request refused
Jul 17 08:44:36 host systemd[1]: qubes-sync-time.service: Main process exited, code=exited, status=126/n/a
Jul 17 08:44:36 host systemd[1]: qubes-sync-time.service: Unit entered failed state.
Jul 17 08:44:36 host systemd[1]: qubes-sync-time.service: Failed with result 'exit-code'.

The service should be disabled in Whonix (it sync time directly with ClockVM). Here failsafe worked - denied at qrexec policy level (qubes.GetDate service).
