Firefox under Firejail gets frequent temporary freezes (standalone Firefox gets them, too, only less frequent and with more -5 or 6- open tabs) #4120

Qubes OS version:

4.0.

Affected component(s):

Firefox Browser (tried in Fedora27-based VMs, Debian-based ones haven't been checked)

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

start Firetools in a Fedora27-based app VM.
start Firefox in Firetools.
open web pages on 2-3 tabs.

or:

start Firefox. open 5-6 tabs. close them and open 5-6 new ones. do these for about an hour or somewhere between 1/2-1 hour, as the freezes seem not to begin right away.

Expected behavior:

while you have web pages with several tabs open, you can navigate and scroll through them, or you can open more pages in new tabs and do the same.

Actual behavior:

firefox under firejail goes through frequent and temporary freezes (usually a few minutes). when the freeze is over you can open more tabs, but there, too, web pages take longer to open and actions such as scrolling happen with momentary freezes.

after the initial post, it turned out that Firefox without Firejail/Firetools was getting temporary freezes, too. these happen in a state when a few more tabs are open than the above case.

General notes:

this had never been a problem with 3.2.

I browsed for several hours opening and closing probably 100+ tabs with more than 10+ tabs open at a time. I did not notice any performance regression

@t4777sd hmm, it kept happening with my Qubes..meanwhile I increased the assigned max. memory and after that it ceased to happen for a longer duration than before, and I could open close to 10 tabs at a time, but then..it happened again at an even broader scale; one could move the cursor around, but no open VM was operable when clicked on.

having said 10 tabs at a time...with 3.2. it didn't matter how many were open, as you said was your case.
