When I close and open the manager window (e.g. by clicking on the tray icon) its state (currently: state=which column we sort by) is lost.

This was apparently fixed between 1.2.14 and 1.2.15. My best bet is that it was fixed by this commit:

http://git.qubes-os.org/?p=joanna/qubes-manager.git;a=blobdiff;f=qubesmanager/main.py;h=108c35a681630dfc3eb76dfe6928c82d24a27d83;hp=8f9710a92f9d4546487cc270d331dcdddc0acfd7;hb=3d46ae7997105c8a6d7297d42ab82351d55a7762;hpb=fab319079887e6aa358492467463baf5ba27029d

...although I'm not sure why...?

Anyway, closing for now.
