To reproduce:
Make sure the template is shutdown
Click on the update button for this template VM
The VM will start and the gpk-viewer will appear. The text in the gpk-viewer shows "There are updates available", but the list is empty! After clicking on the '+' next to the "Details" label, the gpk-viewer exits unexpectedly...
Now, close the gpk-viewer, but do not close the VM. Click on the update button in the manager again. Now, a gpk-viewer is downloading a list of updates and will display a correct list.
I suspect that when we start gpk-viewer with VM still shutdown, there is some race with user environment initialization (qubes-session), which causes gpk-viewer to fail.
