Currently, the Android icon (ie. 192x192 icon) is similar to the favicon master picture. In other words, it is similar to the other PNG icon.

The user should be able to choose the design:

  • Like the other PNG icons
  • Like the iOS icon
  • Dedicated effect to be decided later (a very thin drop shadow maybe?)

As Android Chrome now has its own manifest (well, "will have", starting from M39, still in beta), this issue becomes less relevant. I think it is more sensible to forget the 192x192 PNG icon and the tricks it involves, and focus on the new manifest.

See issue #99 for reference.
