Nextion End of support
Since finally an affordable nextion replacement has been finally found (see VOCORE https://www.simhubdash.com/external-graphic-dashboard-what-are-the-options-what-to-choose/), it would be a bad choice to buy a nextion today, the feature/price ratio is really low compared to vocore, but I keep It supported as long as the manufacturer does not break it 😉 (2023/03/22 ... Spoiler alert : Itead broke it on newer screens/firmware, see edit below)
What will change for me?
- Nothing about current support, the nextion compatibility will be kept exactly as it is today.
- However no bug fixes, support, or additions will be done about the nextion in the future.
- Nextion plugin is now disabled by default but can be enabled in the Simhub Settings :
It seems that some nextion screens are now bundled with firmwares not allowing anymore to use older nextion editor versions. Unfortunately those screens can't be used with simhub directly.
As a workaround you can create the nextion file using simhub included nextion editor then
- Make a copy of the HMI file and open it with the latest nextion editor found on the manfucturer website.
- upload it as you would usually do, using the newer nextion editor (for ttl adapter) or nextion uploader (for Arduino pro micro)
It gets harder and harder to find some nextion screens running older firmware and upload process get more and more unstable if somehow still working. Even if some screens can still work with luck (older stocks from sellers) please exclude buying any nextion for Simhub use.
In order to reduce installer footprint generated by the obsolete nextion dependencies, it now come as a separate installer. This includes :
- Default templates
- Arduino Pro Micro Nextion sketch (NextionMicroBridge)
- Arduino Pro Micro Nextion uploader
- Customized Nextion editor
