Initial node configuration

Introduction

After having set up your Ergo full node, there is some important configuration that you should do.

To allow for incoming connections from Ergo clients, which is key for allowing peers to join the network, you need to define your public address and port forward the port in your router.

It is also important to keep your node up to date, more about this in the conclusion.

Set public address

Begin with setting the public address, this can easily be done from the Node tab of Satergo. Go there and under the ... menu click "Set public address". From there click "Fetch" and accept the changes.

After you have done that the node will have to be restarted but do not restart it yet.

Port forward

Begin by finding your device's local IP address. These usually begin with 192.168., unlike public IP addresses which are completely different. You can look up on the internet how it is done for your operating system.

If you do not already know how create a port forwarding rule on your router, you can use this website: portforward.com.

The ports are to be forwarded with a TCP rule, but it does not matter if you use a dual rule instead. The ports that you need to forward are 9030 and 9053. If your router allows multiple ports in a single rule, you can do it that way, or you can create two different rules. The rules need to be assigned to the local IP address of the device running the node.

Conclusion

Now you need to restart your node for the changes to apply. After a few hours, your node will be available on ergonodes.net.

If you intend to not check up on the node periodically, you can enable the automatic node updating feature. This way your node will be kept up to date without you having to do anything. Otherwise, Satergo will ask for your confirmation when a new node update is found.

Note: Node updates are different from Satergo (the program) updates. Satergo updates cannot be done automatically, but your node will run perfectly fine on an old version of the program as well. However, you should definitely update Satergo when you are notified of a new release.
