To be able to let multiple users edit the same document at the same time, we have to implement a shared lock feature, which is different from the currently built-in locking mechanism that lets users check out a document exclusively.

  • A shared lock can be acquired by anybody who has Save permissions for the document.
  • During the lifetime of a shared lock, the document can only be saved if the caller has the shared lock token. Regular save operations are prohibited.
