I had an incorrect script reference to:

<script src="/signalr/hub"></script>

Notice the missing 's' for "hub". This generated an HTTP 500 from the server. If I make the request directly in the browser, I get:

[InvalidOperationException: Protocol error: Unknown transport.]

Could we somehow provide a helpful error message here indicating the user has simply made a mistake in their script reference?

We can't assume the http request came from a script reference.

We need to think about more scenarios like this and ways that we can provide better error messages.
