When using the SwitchOnRebuild feature with Azure Search provider, the switch may not be performed on remote instances if the web database is not shared across the instances

The release was tested with the following Sitecore products in bare condition (no hotfixes, patches or other customizations, unless explicitly specified):

  • Sitecore CMS 9.0 rev. 180604 (Update-2)


  • App_Config/Include/zzz/Sitecore.Support.290638.config
  • bin/Sitecore.Support.290638.dll


For all Sitecore instances in the solution:

  1. Copy the contents of the Website folder from the archive to the Website folder of your Sitecore solution, overwrite existing files if any conflicts occur.
  2. Patch search indexes configuration to replace all occurrences of type="Sitecore.ContentSearch.Azure.CloudSearchProviderIndex, Sitecore.ContentSearch.Azure
    type="Sitecore.Support.ContentSearch.Azure.CloudSearchProviderIndex, Sitecore.Support.290638


  1. Remove the files listed in the Contents section.
  2. Patch search indexes configuration to replace all occurrences of
    type="Sitecore.Support.ContentSearch.Azure.CloudSearchProviderIndex, Sitecore.Support.290638
    type="Sitecore.ContentSearch.Azure.CloudSearchProviderIndex, Sitecore.ContentSearch.Azure

  • The patch should be installed only if recommended by Sitecore Support.
