If that information isn't available for the release (specials mostly), clicking download should automatically link the series + episode searched for and add it to the queue.

I'm interested in this too. Most of the times I see "unknown" releases that have better quality than the ones detected, and it's frustrating not to be able to do anything about it

I would love to see this implemented as well. It would be nice to be manually override this an unknown series and have it linked to the series that was searched for

I would also love to see this. Some of my shows don't work due to TheTVDB using their own weird episode numbering and TheXEM doesn't fix it. I'd be happy to be able to force these through manual search

I can see why an Automatic Search would not download an episode considered to be "Unknown" but for a Manual Search the program should allow the user to decide if the file belongs to the Series. In my case the series is "Trauma Doctors Every Second Counts" however thetvdb.com considers it to be "Trauma Doctors" and that is what Sonarr uses. When I do a manual search for episode 1 of season 3, Sonarr finds the file "Trauma.Doctors.Every.Second.Counts.S03E01.PDTV.x264-C4TV" which is correct but I cannot download it because Sonarr considers it to be an "Unknown Series".

I do not know if comments matter, but I'd like to see this implemented as well. Sonarr deserves this feature, as it already has the hardest thing accomplished, to find the episodes on a manual search. Might I even suggest a code implementation? On manual push of the download button, a custom scene/episode match is made between the title found and title expected. When the episode is downloaded and a parse is attempted, the parse fails. On parse fail, Sonarr will look in the custom parse match table for anything there. Then it will find the current custom match, treat it accordingly and then clear the custom entry.

I don't know why this isn't a thing yet. Force grab would be amazing! :(

I would definitely have to vote for this as well. Almost no specials are titled s00. So at the moment specials seems to work about 4% of the time for me. Very randomly also. This would be very helpful until a better solution for the auto search is found.

I think this feature is neccesary because you have to be able to approve the Download. I mean if I do a manual search and my indexer find the download and its the right file, but sonarr doesnt find the series, I have to be able approve this download because Im sure is the right file.

This would definitely be a big plus. Perfect example.. the Series "Bull (2016)" because the AVS scene group left off (2016) in the file name Sonarr doesn't recognize the series.

Please could this be prioritised

I am looking for this as well. It's smart enough to find the episode in the first place, why not remember the filename it's downloading and then categorize appropriately once it completes.

arkayenro commented Dec 8, 2017

seeing as how the manual import process (the orange question mark in the activity page) was added a while back to handle any "unknown series" issues with the downloaded filename from an automatic search/download, couldnt that be used instead of adding more logic or saving data about each job?

ie, just let us download anything from the manual search and if it the resulting downloaded filename doesnt match a tvdb series name then the existing manual import required prompt will kick in and let us pick the correct series, season and ep to assign it to.

This feature definitely has my vote.
Now i cannot have my series complete using Sonarr, while i do find episodes manually. For me, this defeats the whole purpose of having Sonarr.

Would be nice since my local torrent provider has crazy naming requirement for uploaders to name their torrents in the local language if it's not a scene pack, making it impossible to download 1080p torrents as those are usually uploaded by the users of the site, not grabbed from scene. The manual search finds the torrent but I'm not allowed to download it since it's "Unknown Series". The files are properly named so Sonarr should be able to find the downloaded file without any issues.
