Basically, the purpose of having an Agree mod is the same as Disagree.

I'm assuming the purpose for the latter is to give people a way to correctly express their disapproval, potentially cutting down on the number of downmods that don't apply. An Agree mod would serve the same purpose: express your approval without calling somebody Insightful, Interesting, or Informative.

There is a class of comments that are none of those three good things, but get upmodded with them because people want to see their opinion upmodded. I am thinking of comments that are pure statements of opinion without anything to back them up.

What if Agree and Disgree were "vote counters" instead of mods? Instead of, and independent of mods. This idea has +121,719 Agree and -449 Disagree.

Probably not. Mods aren't there so you can "me too" without commenting yourself. They're there to sort the worth reading comments from the mediocre from the crap. Disagree wasn't added so people would use it as much as it was to make them think a moment before using moderation incorrectly and to give them a less harmful way to use it if they just can't help themselves.
