Overwrite mode: Paste & auto-completions don't overwrite characters #346

@williamrice

When in overwrite mode, auto-completions, auto-matched parenthesis & paste all insert characters instead of replacing them. This is highly un-unintuitive and cumbersome.

I am not sure whether this is the intended behaviour (hence this thread would be an enhacement) or a bug.

I am running Sublime Text 3, build 3059 on OS X 10.9.3

I would like to buy ST (I love simplicity) but I'm waiting for this issue to be fixed. I am currently working in JetBrains Pycharm (too bloated) yet I have to keep my TextPad open for overwrite paste operations.

I keep data in large csv files in which all the commas are vertically aligned for readability. Its such a schlep to have to re-align every line after pasting in new data, so I'd rather do it in venerable old TextPad.

Please consider prioritizing this issue if its do-able.

If it's only for pasting, you can do something about that by writing a plugin that handles pasting the clipboard and removing the appropriate number of characters. Then you just need to override the keybinding to map to your custom command.

The only thing you need to consider is newlines and multiple selections (to replicate ST functionality) but that wouldn't be too hard.

Thanks. Its handy to know this can be fixed outside of the core code.
