I was playing SH2 with no bugs until I entered "Flashlight room" in Apartment( beginning of game). Some parts of room are totally dark, some of them are in rainbow colors. My GPU is Radeon 8750M with latest drivers.

Update: I found the solution. Rename "d3d8.dll" to "dinput8.dll". Exactly the opposite of that is written here - "http://enhanced.townofsilenthill.com/SH2/#installWidescreenFix"

We're not the creator of that guide, so we can't really help much. There are so many other variables that whatever was causing this was likely not the widescreen fix. I'm glad you were able to get it working though.

The good news is that the entire install process you followed is going to be replaced with something much, much easier and better. Hopefully within the next month or two. Keep an eye on that website if you're interested.

? Would you mind sending a screenshot of your installation directory?

Thanks. And lastly, could I also see what your scripts\ folder looks like?

Thanks for the images, daro7557.

An update or two ago there was an issue with the d3d8to9 converter, as ThirteenAG mentioned. It was visual issues that mostly affected integrated (laptop) graphics. I'm not sure why/how renaming the WSF back to dinput8.dll would fix your issue... Interesting.

Have you recently updated the Widescreen Fix? Do note--and if I understand correctly--the mod updater won't actually update the files (even though it says it has) if the game is installed to the Program Files\ directory. This is due to a Windows security measure. You may need to manually download the latest version of the WSF.

Or, as Aero_ mentioned, we'll have an all-new method of installing these packages in the near future!

Yes I have updated fix recently. I have no problem with updates, because I have full rights in Windows.(EnableLUA registry key set to 0). I didn't mention in first post that this funny colours glitch occurs in every room we enter with flashlight on.

Because renaming d3d8 to something else also disables d3d8to9, if that option was enabled of course.

That totally slipped my mind. Good call on that.

if that option was enabled of course.

Although, looking at daro7557's directory, I do not see global.ini in the scripts\ folder. And I believe that would be the only way to activate d3d8to9 through the WSF?

Looking for cause of that glitch i deleted global.ini and forgot to undelete that file. That's why there is no such file.

Oh, okay. As ThirteenAG speculates it's most likely using the d3d8to9 converter that caused the issue.

I tested d3d8to9 in Silent Hill 3 and 4 and games run smoothly with no flashlight bug. It seems that d3d8 converter bug occurs in SH2 only.

Try downloading the DirectX9 SDK, if you haven't already @daro7557 : https://www.microsoft.com/download/details.aspx?id=35

See if that fixes the issue when d3d8to9 is activated while playing SH2 PC.
