CodeMirror: Very hard to edit via mobile (not just iOS7) #1296
Comments
codemirror/codemirror5/issues/1697 and codemirror/codemirror5/issues/1702 especially are real blockers to being able to use Ghost on mobile or tablet. It seems that CodeMirror are still very much not capable of supporting soft keyboards. I'm talking to CodeMirror about 1702 right now, but I wondered if there'd been any discussion from Ghost on this? What about putting some more pressure on CodeMirror or looking into another editor as @ErisDS mentioned? I'm new to Ghost and really loving it, but I see this as something that needs fixing pretty urgently given the claims of Ghost's super usability in the mobile offering... |
We have a project planned for milestone 0.7 to look at the editor again and probably rebuild it from the ground up. |
Nice, nice :) I suppose I can wait! This'll be great to see. |
+1 for Issue #2289 here. I'm interested to know if anyone has found a proper workaround for editing while on android? |
This should be working as of Ghost 0.4.2, with the exception of the image uploader and the issues outlined in #2570 |
This is not fixed, suggest reopening. |
👍 +1 |
When using iOS (not specifically iOS7) there are a number of difficulties navigating.
It can be very difficult to get the focus to work to bring up the virtual keyboard. Moving around, manipulating text, copying and pasting are all pretty much impossible.

I experience this on my iPhone (not iOS7) - I can just about edit if I put a LOT of effort into figuring out the right place to tap etc.
These are fundamentally issues with CodeMirror:
codemirror/codemirror5#60
codemirror/codemirror5#331
codemirror/codemirror5#1697
codemirror/codemirror5#1702
However, it's important to track this issue here, as it fundamentally detrimental to our mobile offering, and if we can find a new approach (such as using Ace) which does resolve it, it's worthwhile knowing.
