Plugin removed from WordPress plugin directory? #30
Comments
Just noticed that as well. I also was just in the process of setting this up myself and now I'm stuck without it. Anyone have any alternatives? A |
abaumer - you can always just do "Download ZIP" from the main page at https://github.com/UCF/Theme-Updater or get one of the tagged versions at https://github.com/UCF/Theme-Updater/releases I would think you could upload that ZIP as a plugin and it should work fine. That helps get the plugin working now... but doesn't obviously solve the longer-term issue of needing a plugin that continues to be maintained and evolves with WordPress. |
Yeah. I don't know what I was thinking. Got that working. Thanks. Just hoping for a supported option like you. A |
Just noticed this too. I can confirm that http://wordpress.org/plugins/theme-updater/ is still broken. What's up with this? |
I was recently alerted to another plugin, https://github.com/afragen/github-updater , that seems to have merged the code from this one here from UCF in with some code from another plugin to create a working system. There is a note in the documentation page, though, that the plugin is not allowed in the WordPress.org plugin directory (but no explanation). Anyway, that may be another option for folks. |
@danyork Actually, there's a full discussion about why it's now allowed in WordPress.org here: afragen/git-updater#34 The same issues would probably be true for this project also. |
Ah, thanks. That probably is WHY this plugin was removed from the WordPress.org repository. In fact, you could pretty much see that here from one of the people involved with WordPress.org : afragen/git-updater#7 (comment) And Andy Fragen clarified a bit more right above that: afragen/git-updater#7 (comment) Given all of that, I'll close this issue because it's clear that the plugin will NOT be allowed back in to the WordPress.org repository. Thanks, everyone! |
Hi. I noticed that this plugin is no longer available at the URL of:
http://wordpress.org/plugins/theme-updater/
Did someone remove it from the directory? Or is there some kind of error going on?
Is UCF no longer interested in supporting this plugin?
Thanks,
Dan
