@ThomasWunderlich

I've had other devs mention this to me but it seems like the lithium website is not being indexed by Google. One of the devs I worked with had to go to github->website->search to find what he was looking for.

Could we fix this to make working with lithium a more enjoyable experience, especially for newcomers?

This was an issue before the switch to the new domain, and will be even more of an issue because of the new domain

@nateabele I'd be happy to champion this if need be. Some pretty simple things we can do to clean this up

+1 Awareness is a huge issue for Lithium (and I plan to help fix that too).

I think the main issue is the lack of content on the domain itself. We have some plans to fix this. I'll try and get some details out soon.

There's plenty of content on the domain @nateabele, google isn't indexing any of it: https://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Ali3.me

Also, none of the old urls are redirecting to the new li3.me ones, which is a big SEO no-no.

@ThomasWunderlich

Maybe I'm misremembering but doesn't Google have a way to mitigate the non-redirecting?
Also it would probably make sense to see if we can contact owners of old articles and have them update their links to the new ones.

Unless you tell Google, they have no way of knowing where your new site is. This can be done via Webmaster Tools. However, it's much more efficient to 301 redirect the url's yourself.

In regards to old articles, that's a fine plan. But, in the event that they don't change them, a 301 redirect would take care of that.

301 is the preferred SEO way I believe - problem there is I believe we no longer have the lithify.me domain...Yes? So yes we can put a request through on Google's site...And we can also start linking it (backlinks are super important) too.

I believe this would be useful, if we no longer own the lithify.me domain: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/83106

Also, if it's a matter of funding, I'd be happy to pick up the tab for the registration of lithify.me

@AdrianRamiro

Who is/was the owner of lithify.me ? He/she can still renew it, Godaddy wants to charge me USD 69,99 to contact the owner plus a comission on the sale :S

There are... other reasons it has not been renewed yet. I'll try to find some time to blog about it soon.

Regarding searchability, I'm now monitoring the site via webmaster tools and retriggered the indexing. Since ~1week 4.786 pages are shown to be in the index.

@ericcholis Thanks for the link, but unfortunately we cannot use "address change" as we're no longer the owner of said domain.
