I trying to install Unvanquished from source. When I try to run Unvanquished, I got the message at header. Console output:

It looks like the engine is trying to use JACK sound system, which is uncommon. Do you have need for this?

This is unrelated to the error you report, but this is wrong. Which scripts are you using to build/run Unvanquished? Note that distro-spectific scripts seems currently unmaintained (except perhaps Arch).

I don't know hoe to prevent it to use JACK.

This is unrelated to the error you report, but this is wrong. Which scripts are you using to build/run Unvanquished? Note that distro-spectific scripts seems currently unmaintained (except perhaps Arch).

I used Arch's scripts and modified them, basically added them to homepath. It was giving error before it.

I thought OpenAL is trying to use JACK, so i disabled it in OpenAL and rebuilt, then hit unvanquished command, this time didn't give detailed console output but gave the same error in a pop-up.

The home path is now "${XDG_DATA_HOME:-${HOME}/.local/share}/unvanquished" (see here (XDG) or here (Arch) for explanations). But you must not have to pass it to the engine since the engine already knows how to find it.

What is the error the pop-up said?

Can you try the workaround described there?

You would just have to copy-paste this in your terminal:

cat > ~/.alsoftrc <<\EOF
[general]
drivers = -jack,
EOF

Then restart the game.

If it fixes your issue, it would meant the OpenAL version shipped by your distro is broken.

Unless I'm missing something, this really looks like a distro issue, unfortunately I'm not sure I can help you more. How behaves the prebuilt game (you can find there named “universal zip”) ?
