Hello,

Having Multicore Rendering enabled causes Source games to stutter pretty badly. If you search Google for "Multicore Rendering Stutter" there are plenty of people having this problem on Windows.

A post I made here: http://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/191cew/latest_update_for_tf2_improves_peformance_on/
also shows that this is a problem on Linux as people have thanked and upvoted my post for fixing their stuttering problem by disabling Multicore Rendering.

I have an Intel i5 2400 and Nvidia GT 545 with 304.64 drivers and have the stuttering problem on Linux and Windows. I also had the stuttering problem on Windows on my old laptop with a Core 2 Duo and an Nvidia 8600m GT around a year ago.

I too have this issue in both Team Fortress 2 and Counter-Strike: Source where multicore rendering, when disabled, increased my performance. Not sure if the two are related, but I still cannot max out Team Fortress 2 on my system despite it being more than capable of doing so in Windows 7. Games also freeze for a few seconds every few minutes or so. Sounds continue to play, it's just the visuals that grind to a halt.
