Make it possible to run away from battles - except boss battles. #22

Hi all,
It would be nice if there was a way to escape from battles, specifically for use-cases when our hero party is down either on HP or/and resources or both.

They should be run away, the only time they should be stuck in battles is in boss battles (like the one with the artic dog/sheep battle).

The hard thing is to make it look right for the player and intuitive.

I've been thinking about it and here are the things I'm sure of atm:

  • the characters should have the run left animation when trying to flee.
  • we could use a combination of two keys for that so we don't have to add yet another key for that.
  • what I'm quite against is to permit to flee a battle when one character is in coma. I know it might sound harsh but it's definItely not feeling natural to me.
  • fleeing a battle would simply make the characters leave to the left and return to the previous mode immediatly.

What's left and I'm not sure of is how we compute the time the player need to press the flee combination against the enemies strength.

Ah and yeah, the wolf needs improvement to look more like a wolf. But you'l have to be more patient about that one.

I disagree. The player can already run away from battles. On the maps, that is. Allowing them to also run from a battle they got stuck in is redundant IMO. It's more fun to try and run away on the map than it is to just hold down a key in battle and hope that you eventually escape. It's up to Bertram if he wants to add this ability. As for me, I don't think it's worth the time and effort when the player already has this ability in the game, even if it's in a different sense than what we might be used to in a traditional jRPG.

I must say that I rather agree with you on that one. NemesisDD and shirish have pushed about this feature, maybe because of the enemy cornering problem, btw. Or the too short respawn time?
In any case, I don't have current plans in developping this for the current next release. Let's widen a bit the story and the dungeons and see how it turns.

Let's close this one as it doesn't fit the desired game play, now the game rules and monster stats have been balanced.
