The panning action gets mixed up with adjusting volume and instead of setting the volume, it moves the centerviewcontroller. How can I fix this?

This can only be simulated on device.

just disable the panning?

You can either set the panningmode or set the property enabled to NO for the duration of the video.

I need to disable my IIViewDeckController during video play right?

Yes. It has a property enabled which disables the panning.

Best way is to set panningmode. Changing enabled gives different kind of head ache.

Different kind of ache? #curious

When I set enabled to NO, I could use the volume bar however it was only one tiny change per touch as if I was using the volume buttons on the device. Hope I could explain this.

Adding something like this to the gestureRecognizer might help you. This would allow all types of sliders work as expected and still allow the view to be slid.

if([[touch view] isKindOfClass:[UISlider class]])
{
return NO;
}

That's a good idea.

Nice idea @danclarkem
