Not sure it was a good idea - it stores debugging settings which are not trivial to figure out.

Pretty much only the path to VS. It will give a message that no exe path is configured when you press F5, and I'm sure the contributor's guide mentions it.

Maybe, but having an almost full path in there was quite convenient.

Quite on contrary, It wasn't convenient for me to change the path every time I commit at work and pull at home or vice versa, not to mention someone else also committed his path every now and then. Now I'll just set it once and for all on every computer and never have to be bothered again.
