Roles and Current Exec


President

Jakob Wood

The President is the overall leader of the society, and is in charge of:

  • Running exec meetings and speaking to other exec members;
  • Planning ahead for the year and dealing with any potential issues;
  • Collaborating with the maths department, SU, and other societies.

Vice-President

Oliver Kerins

The Vice-President is to assist the President with the general running of the society, including:

  • Sending weekly society emails;
  • Being present at events when the President cannot attend;
  • Coordinating with the Equal Opportunities and Welfare Officers to organise the mentorship scheme.

Treasurer

Yuliia Illiushchenko

The Treasurer is to handle the finances of the society. This involves:

  • Contacting companies for sponsorships and maintaining positive relationships with them;
  • Managing the budget for the academic year;
  • Discussing and approving funds with the SU.

Equal Opportunities & Welfare

Manav Desai and Abhir Verma

The Equal Opportunities & Welfare officers are responsible for planning and hosting events for underrepresented groups in Maths. This involves running the weekly Coffee and Cake welfare event. The Equal Opportunities & Welfare officers are also responsible for coordinating and planning the annual Ada Lovelace day, celebrating women and non-binary mathematicians.


Social Secretaries

Jonah Crouch and Lola Holle

The Social Secretaries work together to organise and run a variety of social events for the society. This involves:

  • Organising circles, bar crawls, board game nights, and other sober socials;
  • Organising the annual post-exam BBQ;
  • Assisting the Ball Secretary.

Talks Coordinators

Benjamin Bevan and Antoni Tworkowski

The Talks Coordinators organise the weekly academic talks. This involves:
  • Contacting potential speakers;
  • Booking rooms, and ensuring minimal clashes with timetabled lectures/seminars;
  • Ordering food and other resources for the event.

The Talks Coordinators are also responsible for organising the Warwick-Imperial Conference (WIMP).


Academic Support

Benjamin Bevan, Lihu Salomon-Bar, and Charlie Yau

The Academic Support Officers organise and run the weekly Maths Café event where they assist other students with their academic studies. They are also responsible for organising the revision lectures later in the year.

Ordinarily, there are two roles available. However, due to a draw in the byelection, there are three officers for the 26/27 year.


Academic Events

Christina Kavouriadou

The Academic Events Coordinator organises academic collaborations with other societies, as well as overseeing several annual maths competitions.


Publications Officers

Elliott Doolan and Liam Logue

The Publications Officers are in charge of the general maintenance and upkeep of the society webpage. This involves:

  • Posting weekly updates and event notifications to the website;
  • Updating revision resources and society contact information;
  • Updating relevant website sections on a termly basis.

Careers Officer

Freddie Cove

The Careers Officer is to promote awareness of career options amongst members. This includes:

  • Establishing relationships with companies;
  • Inviting employers to campus to collaborate with WMS;
  • Organising events and exploring further methods to help employability.

Sports Officer

Zezi Li

The Sports Officer manages the sports teams of the WMS. This includes ensuring that the teams have captains and are signed up to leagues, as well as managing any necessary equipment and publicising on the society sports Facebook page.


Marketing Officer

MT Li

The Marketing Officer is responsible for the effective marketing of the society, mainly through Facebook, Instagram, and Discord. This involves creating graphic resources and scheduling posts for events to ensure information is clearly transmitted to society members.


Tour Secretary

Brian Makawana

The Tour Secretary is to plan and run any society trips abroad.


Ball Secretary

Ng Man Fei

The Ball Secretary is to plan and run the society's annual winter ball. This involves:

  • Working closely with the Social Secretaries;
  • Working with the Treasurer to ensure budgets and deadlines are met.

Freshers' Representatives

Elected term 1 next year

First year students (freshers) are often underrepresented or entirely absent from society execs; the Freshers' Representatives are to serve as a liaison between freshers and the society.
