When a server supports recursive lookups, automatically build/include named.root from http://www.internic.net/domain/named.root

WillyXJ, if I'm understanding this correctly, will fmdns now automatically updated named.root from internic site by itself?

Hi wispr,

Yes, with 1.3, named.root will be automatically updated from internic only if the fM server can access the website. Otherwise, the latest copy included in the tarfile will be used.

hie Willy , i might be getting confused with the

zone "." in {
type hint;
file "named.root";
};

do i have to do anything to include it because i am seeing its already being include under the hint directory when you go on the backend.How is facilemanager referencing that file

Hi chamambom,

You don't have to do anything as fmDNS automatically adds that zone from internic so it should always have the latest root servers. No need to add the zone manually. I hope that makes sense.

Yah that makes sense .... let me see if i can find a test case for my DNS servers so i can test that the root servers are referenced

I should also note that the hint zone will only be included when 'recursion yes' is defined in global or view options.

Does it work only when 'recursion yes' is defined in global options?
I try to define 'recursion yes' only in view options and I have no the hint zone anywhere.
