Feature Request: SOA Template #114
Comments
Should be doable. I think selecting a SOA template could be done in fewer steps if the drop-down of templates was also added to the zone creation form. If "Custom" is selected, then you will be directed to the current SOA form after creating the zone. On that page, I'll add a drop-down to select a template as well, but defaulted to "Custom." In the "custom" form, I'll add a "Save as template" checkbox which will add it to the drop-down for future reference. Of course, if a template is chosen from the drop-down, then the form will be hidden. Would that be the best workflow, or is there even a better way? |
I think that sounds nearly perfect. Only thing I would possibly add (if easily done) is to let the end user select which template they want to be default. |
I've struggling to figure out the best way to allow editing of a templated SOA. I might create another menu item (Templates -> SOA) that lists all SOA templates that can then be edited. Is there a cleaner, more organized idea? |
That seems like a good way to manage the template part and other DNS providers/control panels do the same thing. The tricker part in my mind is how you display the selection of the SOA template. In the wizard to add a new zone should just start with a blank page with a drop down of template names and custom as the last option. Custom takes them to the exist page to create the SOA maybe with a checkbox to save the record as an soa template. |
This has been committed and will be included in the next release. |
SOA values are commonly the same across multiple domains and when adding additional domains, the current workflow causes lots of duplicate entry. After a domain is added it would be very convenient to have a drop-down list of SOA templates to apply to the new domain, with an option at the bottom of the list for custom that displays the form currently in place today.
