Use Cases

The different use cases may need different interfaces to work most efficiently. Make sure that it is possible to change layouts of the interface.

Mobile Team (eg. team of rescuers)

Default screen should show the map of the locality. In case of an SOS call(message:FF), a popup alert should be shown. and have easy access to enter these record types:

  • 11: Resources Available
  • 13: Road Assessment
  • 14: HAZMAT (chemical factories / spills / contaminated areas, etc)
  • 20: Refugee
  • 22: Deceased
  • 40: Impending Disaster / Emergency / Help Needed
  • 41: Crime
Other record types can be in the “other” category

RoadAssessment

Team is exploring the area, and finds that the road is damaged. It can only be passed on foot.

They open the map view on their device, tap “road assessment”, enter assessment ( There is no road, rock-climbing, donkey-can-pass, two wheeler to car, truck can pass etc.). This information is sent to all devices and everyone can see the new entry, with an icon that represents the road assesment. (Optional: GPS navigation systems are updated as well).

HelpNeeded / ImpendingDisaster / Emergency

Team is exploring the area, and finds that assistance is needed in a certain place.

They open the map view on their device, tap “help needed” enter assessment (evacuation, send a crane, fire, etc). This information is sent to all devices and everyone can see the new entry. Control center may dispatch someone, or call in over radio (voice) for more information, or perform the necessary action. (Optional: GPS Nav system on vehicles is updated with this waypoint...)

Resources Available

Team is exploring the area, and finds that there is a water tank which is not damaged.

They open the map view on their device, tap “Resources available” and enter the details (capacity, need to be cleaned up / can be used as a potable water source). This information is sent to all devices and everyone can see the new entry.

Refugee Center

Team is exploring the area, and finds that there is a refugee center already setup in a near-by school. They open the map view on their device, tap “Refugee center” and enter the details (number of people currently being housed there, capacity, food supplies available for how many days, water availability and sanitation condition - poor, fair, alert). This information is sent to all devices and everyone can see the new entry.

Ideally, one CrisisCommunicator is left with the center to enter the data of all the people.

Crime

Team is exploring the area, and finds that there is gangster group threatening the people in refugee center.

They open the map view on their device, tap “Crime” and enter the details (type of crime - robbery, assault, sexual; no. of criminals, weapons / other threats). This information is sent to all devices and everyone can see the new entry. Also, a high alert message is sent to the law and order team.

HAZMAT

Team is exploring the area, and finds that there is a tanker stuck in between the debris. They open the map view on their device, tap “HAZMAT” and enter the details (the type of material - oil, gas, chemicals; immediate evaluation of the situation - severity of Hazard turing into a disaster;). This information is sent to all devices and everyone can see the new entry.
