It seems like a lot of IE6 users are those who are on XP and unable/unwilling to upgrade. In this case, the best upgrade path available to them would be other browsers and not IE as IE9 is unsupported in Win XP and IE8 is definitely not a good enough browser to give them the best experience.
There are still a significant number of users on XP, so I think it would be a good idea to push them to upgrade to one of the alternatives available to them: Opera, Chrome, Firefox or Safari.
Browse Happy: Add a notice for the browser you are using and suggest
they update to the newest version.
If they are running Internet Explorer on Windows XP, let them know we
suggest they try a different browser, as they cannot update further.
props hugobaeta for the design.
This is great.
I think we can augment this to "disable" the IE option on this page. But divya and I can take that part on.
Yeah, we can make it grayscale or provide some other visual cue. @hugobaeta should have some time starting next week to start tackling a short list of style and design tasks.
Ideally, it would not even exist as a choice because it is not a choice available for XP users (we could have a 'not on xp' link on the message bar in case it is an accidental UA mistake).
