One of the great benefits of Gutenberg is the block based concern for various pieces of content. In contrast to the classic editor, I don't find myself itching to tweak the HTML of a section in my content. But when I do, I would do it on a block level.

This weekend I studied the keyboard shortcuts and found there is a keyboard shortcut for switching the whole edit screen to Code editor, but I was actually missing the switch on the block level.

Add a keyboard shortcut to the Block options menu, next to the once for inserting blocks before and after.

The project will be heavily focused on bug-fixing in the near future, but I love this enhancement idea and I think it would be cool to add later or cool to see it as an update from a contributor. I don't think there's a specific reason for not adding it but I'll add the Needs Design Feedback label for a quick check on that.

This would be a big help for people like me. I often use cite tags, often use lang attributes and often want to paste in links to my Amazon affiliate account. Right now I mostly work in the text pane to facilitate this. I also copy names from IMBD and use the text pane to make pasting them into my content without the IMBD markup easier. I also think I get more semantic HTML if I don't use the toolbar for all the markup – especially if I want an i or a b tag.

I agree this is going to be a much more effective interaction pattern going forward and should probably have a shortcut.

I somehow missed this ticket until now. I vastly prefer editing HTML at a block level, and I like to throw in stuff like <abbr> and <kbd> tags into my content, so I would really appreciate a keyboard shortcut to quickly toggle the per-block HTML view instead of having to use my mouse to open the ellipsis menu and click it over and over again.

This is definitely a solid idea.
Would love to tackle this one if no one has taken it up (via @10up) @tofumatt
