Critical‐Strikes

Pedro E. V. Acosta edited this page Jun 5, 2026 · 1 revision

A Critical Strike occurs when an already-Incapacitated character is hit. The module handles the entire flow automatically — from detecting the trigger to applying the final critical effect.

Triggers

A Critical Strike is launched when any of the following happen:

  • An attack lands on a character whose fatigue already exceeds their endurance
  • A player clicks ⚡ Spend 2 Opportunities on a damage card (see Opportunity Critical)
  • A player invokes Void Defense – Don't Defend from a damage message (see Void Defense)

Severity Calculation

Base Severity = Weapon Deadliness
Reduction = 1 + Bonus Successes (on Fitness success) | 0 (on failure)
Final Severity = max(1, Base Severity − Reduction)

The final severity maps directly to the L5R5e critical effects table.
