A Critical Strike occurs when an already-Incapacitated character is hit. The module handles the entire flow automatically — from detecting the trigger to applying the final critical effect.
A Critical Strike is launched when any of the following happen:
- An attack lands on a character whose fatigue already exceeds their endurance
- A player clicks ⚡ Spend 2 Opportunities on a damage card (see Opportunity Critical)
- A player invokes Void Defense – Don't Defend from a damage message (see Void Defense)

Base Severity = Weapon Deadliness
Reduction = 1 + Bonus Successes (on Fitness success) | 0 (on failure)
Final Severity = max(1, Base Severity − Reduction)
The final severity maps directly to the L5R5e critical effects table.

After the Fitness roll resolves, the module posts a summary showing the calculation and the applied effect.
After the mitigation result card appears, the target may invoke Shattering Parry to reroll all mitigation dice. See Shattering Parry.
