I've not really been following discussions about the introduction of the <main> element - but I have had a bunch of people pinging me over email and twitter about adding to the shiv.

Anyone else been following this - and if it is in, it's a pretty trivial addition, right?

Indeed, it would be a trivial addition. The question is, should we add elements into the shiv before they reach spec proper? I think, given the trivial nature of a few characters --- any and all legitimate proposals are welcome.

As long as people don't think inclusion in the shiv means anything definitive about its official status.. I'm 👍 on including it.

You're right, Paul. I think we could develop a simple position on the matter and let the community know. Like:

html5shiv enables use of various HTML elements in legacy Internet Explorer, including some elements still in proposal.

thanks for adding! note main is in the (editing) process being added to HTML 5.1 and is also in the process of being implemented in Firefox (if that speaks in any sense to its status).

I love how GitHub almost suggests that we've added a in ma element.
