ivy-read treats collection differently than completing-read #1832

With ivy-mode disabled completing-read handles mixed strings and alists but ivy-read seems not to:

(completing-read "a " '("one" "two" ("three" . "four")))
  ;; one, three, two

  (ivy-completing-read "a " '("one" "two" ("three" . "four")))
  ;; nothing, same with ivy-read

Similar to #1743 but #1744 doesn't seem to fix it for me.
