Reproduce recipe

  1. echo "I am here." > "$" && make plain
  2. C-x C-f

find $$ instead of $

ivy ver. 5458f93
Emacs 26.1

If a file "foobar$" is present in the directory,

    (all-completions "" #'read-file-name-internal)

returns "foobar$$". It's not clear why this is.
