Note: there is currently a problem using the Selenium Webdriver 4.36.0 gem in Ruby 3.3.9 because it depends on the Prism gem; this gem is failing to install on this version of Ruby. Workaround is to downgrade Selenium Webdriver to 4.35.0 but this is not a long term solution. Please could we get Ruby upgraded? This should resolve the issues, thanks.

You can use task to select desired Ruby version on the fly: UseRubyVersion@0

Note: there is currently a problem using the Selenium Webdriver 4.36.0 gem in Ruby 3.3.9 because it depends on the Prism gem; this gem is failing to install on this version of Ruby.

Please describe your motivation in more detail. Updating carries risks that we don't want to take without fully understanding the reasons for the upgrade.

First Problem

UseRubyVersion does not select the correct version of the hosted tool cache. It doesn't matter if I specify a specific version (3.3.9) or just 3.3, it will always select Ruby 3.4.6.

If I remove the "UseRubyVersion" task completely, it selects the Ruby 3.3.9 hosted tool cache.

The issue below is present when using either 3.3.9 or 3.4.6.

Second Problem

Latest Selenium Webdriver gem requires the Prism gem but this always fails to install on the hosted agent, see below for environment details and actual failure.
Edit: It looks like latest Json gem is also failing to install.

UseRubyVersion

This might be a bit silly question, but I have to ask it based on the information provided. I see in the screenshot and logs that you're using the ">= x.x" syntax for the task. This forces it to always use the latest available version from ToolCache. If you need a specific version, it makes sense to use "x.x" as the key.

If you did this and the task continued to behave unexpectedly, it might be worth opening an issue in the developer repository here: https://github.com/microsoft/azure-pipelines-tasks

Ruby

The problem is not with the Gem itself, but with the environment on the Ruby packages: the native extension builder does not see the Ruby headers (ruby.h) and/or the DevKit/MSYS2-toolchain is not installed.

There's a problem here. We don't control the composition of cached Ruby packages—they come as is from the third-party source: https://github.com/oneclick/rubyinstaller2
