  1. Download http://cloud.github.com/downloads/adobe/brackets/brackets-sprint-10.zip
  2. Make a new folder. I used ~/code/brackets
  3. Move the zip file to the new folder.
  4. Unzip
  5. Use the Finder and double click on bin/mac/Brackets
    Actual: The Bracket icon forever bounces in the launch bar.
    Expected it to stop bouncing and for the application to appear.
    Note: running OS version 10.7.4

@sflennik: try the Troubleshooting page? Permissions in particular seem to be a common problem with Mac unzipping apps.

Does anything appears in the console?

/Applications/Utilities/Console.app

What happens if you try to start from terminal?

open Brackets.app

@sflennik: the permissions that are most important to check are on Brackets.app/Contents/MacOS/Brackets (the actual executable inside the app package).

$ cd bin/mac/Brackets.app/Contents/MacOS
$ ll
total 69968
-rw-r--r-- 1 sflennik staff 195284 Jun 25 15:38 Brackets
-rw-r--r-- 1 sflennik staff 35623988 Jun 25 15:38 libcef.dylib

It does look like a permission problem.
Do you know a simple way to fix using the command line?

@sflennik: I think chmod +x <filename> should do it.

I've added these details to the Troubleshooting page. See also #1158.

You do not have execute permissions on the Brackets executable. Easy remedy would be to

chmod +x ./Brackets
chmod +x ./libcef.dylib

I don't know how you could have gotten this issue as I downloaded that exact same things and everything worked fine.

That did the trick. Thanks.

For reference my step 4 was:
unzip brackets-sprint-10.zip

For step 1, I used Firefox to download.

How did you unzip the brackets zip file?

Disregard my comment, I see you used unzip.

I had exactly the same issue with this and the previous version I tried, 7a.
I downloaded it in Chrome and it was being unzipped using Keka.
Changing the permissions by hand as described by Artem above fixed it and allowed it to open.

This will be resolved when we have a proper installer/disk image. The Troubleshooting page has been updated with detailed information about solving this issue. Closing.
