One Thing at a Time Please

The productivity app for people who've finally admitted they can't actually multitask.

🔗 onethingatatimeplease.com

🤖 Built mostly with Cursor, and in a couple of hours. The AI generated the project, and the jokes. I just said "no" a lot.

What is this?

It's a kanban board. With exactly one ticket slot. That's it.

This is the board for people who have looked at their Jira backlog and felt their soul leave their body.

Features

  • One ticket maximum — Because you're not a supercomputer, no matter what your LinkedIn bio says.
  • 🚫 Permanently disabled "Blocked" column — Nothing can block you when there's only one thing. Think about it.
  • 🎉 Confetti when you finish — You get a little dopamine hit. You've earned it. You did ONE thing.
  • 💾 Syncs across devices — Your commitment to doing one thing follows you everywhere.
  • 🔗 Shareable boards — Send someone your board so they can watch you procrastinate on a single task.

Philosophy

Traditional project management tools let you create unlimited tickets, which is technically impressive and spiritually devastating. Studies show that the average developer has 12 "In Progress" items at any given time and is making meaningful progress on exactly zero of them.

You've tried:

  • ✅ Trello (372 cards, 12 boards, 0 completed)
  • ✅ Notion (elaborate databases you stopped updating in week 2)
  • ✅ Jira (we don't talk about Jira)
  • ✅ Post-it notes (currently stuck to your monitor, illegible, from 2019)

This app solves that problem by making it physically impossible to lie to yourself.

How to Use

  1. Visit the site
  2. Add your one thing
  3. Drag it to "In Progress" when you start
  4. Drag it to "Done" when finished (it will vanish in a shower of confetti)
  5. Experience the brief, fleeting sensation of accomplishment
  6. Add another thing
  7. Repeat until retirement or heat death of the universe

FAQ

Q: Can I have two tickets?
A: No.

Q: What if I genuinely have multiple things to do?
A: Pick one. The others aren't real.

Q: But my workflow requires—
A: Your workflow requires you to pick one thing and finish it.

Q: This is stupid. Real work requires multitasking.
A: How's that working out for you?

Q: Is this a joke?
A: It's a joke that's more useful than most serious productivity apps.

Feel free to open issues. But remember: this project can only have ONE open issue at a time.

Just kidding. GitHub doesn't support that. Yet.

GPL-3.0 — Stallman would be proud. Briefly.

TL;DR: Do less. But actually finish it.
