I'm working on a large and complicated rails application where the automatic behavior defined in lib/airbrake/rails.rb is undesired and in some cases harmful.

  1. I should be able to require the airbrake gem from within a rails environment without automatically inserting any Rack middleware.

  2. I should be able to require the airbrake gem from within a rails environment without automatically including anything into ActionController::Base.

My preference would be to just leave the calling of Airbrake::Rails.initialize up to the user and call it something like Airbrake::Rails.auto_configure, but I'd be happy with any other solution that takes me to airbrake nirvana (sans magic).
