While trying to start miracle-wifid I got this:

$ sudo miracle-wifid &
[1] 2912
ERROR: supplicant: execution of wpas (/usr/bin/wpa_supplicant) not possible: No such file or directory (supplicant_spawn() in wifid-supplicant.c:2398)
ERROR: link: cannot start supplicant on wlan0 (link_set_managed() in wifid-link.c:149)

while wpa_supplicant is located at:

$ which wpa_supplicant 
/sbin/wpa_supplicant

See there is an option --wpa-bindir on miracle-wifid. So on ubuntu you should call

$ sudo miracle-wifid --wpa-bindir /sbin
