I tried to reduce the amount of support again in 0.9.3 but still wasn't able to produce a support that can be removed easily. The connection between the single lines is too strong and results in a single block which is difficult to remove.
Would it be possible to reduce the connection between these lines?
What about an additional diamond-like support?

How about a single walled spiraling circle. Look at the support added to the bottom bearing hole in this extruder to know what I mean: http://www.thingiverse.com/download:79713

I thought about a spiral-like support, too. I'm printing a lot of round things where this would make sense. Think about the bracelets from nervoussystems or Ditzingof's mud vase on thingiverse. Difficult to add this manually...

Try to increase the pattern spacing (Print settings->Support material) and decrease the support material extrusion width (Print settings -> Advanced).
