Dear Mr. Alessandro Ranellucci

I had to change to other slicer because in real Digital long run production we need to make multiple STL file in one plate...never been able to prepare a Multifile (6 files of 4 megas x example) without crashing...tested on several computers..and all version since the oldest ones.

Also I believe Would be great if you include temperature changes Option when changing tool.
So the UNUSED extruder (besides retraction when no use) it also CHANGES THE TEMP TO A PASSIVE STATE to avoid Leaking.

Im slicing now with the new version...I PRAY for the multifile CRASH ISSUE to be solved...
I make muchnicer prints with Slic3r.

ALL THE REST I LOVE...support, speed settings, etc..

I achived much better quality prints with Slic3r than with others...but cannot use it for everything.

Best regards.

What about supplying exact files, version number, config.ini and steps to reproduce?

https://github.com/alexrj/Slic3r/wiki/Quick-guide-to-writing-good-bug-reports

Sorry I didn't especified any of that...
I will do as soon as I get to their pc.

We can work on the last version...9.7

I have been downloading all the last versions trying to check if this was solved...
Lets talk about the 9.7

I tought it was my computer...
But I tested already in other computers.

The last four versions I was only able to used them whith only one or two files in a plate....and not over 13 megas total
(Talking abou thingiverse things...blacksinamite bust imposible, full christ on one plate impossible....)

....over 13 megas...it can take more than 2 hours to slice and always crash at the end ....over 13 megas...never finished...
On windows version always.

I talked with other people having printers and they also have this problem...

Crash on heavy Files....
over 13mega en my case...

And when procesing more than 4 diferent stls...(Between 4 and 7 mega each)

I can share tomorrow a dropbox folder with the stls of the place im working in...
Im installing a leapfrog on an invisible bracket making company...

They print teeth...lots of teeth....
Scanned and process in a special software for odonto market.

Slicer can process them greatlly in an individual way or up to 4....
The result is MuCH nicher than with cura...

But cura is faster and do not crash....
But the result we are achieving is not satisfactory for them yet....

I was very sad...beacuse when i offered this solution to them...i had tested lots of teeth with slicer without any problem....they loved the result...

But when we installed the machine next to their 4 stratasys....they tried to process 6 jaws on slicer and crashed.

I found that handling lots of files (4 to 7 mega) is not easy...

Im now using cura...but they are not getting the results they need...

Your algorithm is somehow similar to the statasys one...

And the results are similar on the same stl...

Im sure they would love to use Slicer but we cannot...as it crashes on big files (if I make First the 6 stls plate in other program also crashes.) And processing 6 files on a plate is impossible...

I will share later my config and denture files

Im very gratefull for your answer....

Best regards..

Rodrigo

Alex, I didn’t go to the costumer yet..I will send you the info you requested as soon as I can...

I have observed in the three stratasys machines they have, the z moves down on retracction....
And Ive tryied your lift Z option, but in our Leapforg Creatr machine, the Z lift and crash the nozzle...
We use a darwin style and z is the bed...

THnks for all.

Dear Alex,

Sorry for my NON professional previous reports...
we are testing with Slic3r Version 9.7 (I started working with slic3r on July aprox with 9.1 vs)

These SLIC3R CRASHING on multiplate or big files Happened since the my beginning 9.1..at least in 4 different PCs.

The best PC is the one Im using now...the info is in a printscreen in the Dropbox folder together with the STL Files to try a muiltiplate.
Also you will find the one of the several INI files I tested with
https://www.dropbox.com/home/Public/Slic3R%20report

Basically, you open the files and depending on the amount and size...crash on loading or on Generating the GCODE...
But never finish the process..

This also happens If I open a big file...

PD> Regarding the other FEATURE I would love to have is a LOWER Z instead of LIFT Z....
In my LEAPFROG case...the bed should go DOWN...not UP....on retraction.
How can I do?

If you need anything else please just ask.,,,

THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP

Best regards..

Rodrigo

Today I spent the hole day working on this... definitely Your Slicers algorithm or way to slice is very very similar to the statasys one, the result is very similar...at least to my eyes...only the low Z on retraction is missing...

I have downloaded Mesh mixer and netfabb to fix the files...as I noticed some of them give error (not manifold etc..) but as they print all scanned files from dentures, files are always different, and therey have no time to fix each file....and they are used to DImension soft that looks like solves it all ...

Regarding the amount of files..I cannot slice more than 3..it crashes no matter what I do....

.thats the main issue now...

Thanks for such a great product...

I hope the link is good now..

Rodrigo
look at my #857 fred,

could be the same prob?- running out of mem or pointers or what so ever?

Thanks for replying...
Have you been able to reproduce, open and process the files in one plate?

Whats the minum hardware specs for moving the software without this problems...? Processor? Memory?

Tell me and Ill buy it....

The computer im working now has 4 gigas ram.
Is it enough ? (Specs in dropbox link with the stl files)

This happened to me in 3 different noebooks, and 2 desktops pcs....

And several times...when doing multiplate and opening big files...

This is something that as far as I know happens to a lot of people...

Best regards...

Try limiting slicer to one CPU and see if it helps. Also try having the
file name as short a possible with no invalid characters.

sysdump commented Dec 13, 2012

How many threads have you set slic3r to use?
You'll find the setting at: Print Settings > Advanced > Other > Threads:
Try lowering it or setting it to 1. This should reduce the memory usage. Having this setting set too high crashes my Windows when I try to generate gcode from hi-poly models.

JetA1 commented Dec 13, 2012

High,
mine has 8GB, W7P, and crashes Slicer (not Windows) on big files when threads >1.
When finished slicing on my 8GB computer Ican´t load the file in Slicer host on my 4 GB XP notebook, must print from the 8GB one.
