I'm willing to help clean up / merge pull requests and issues if needed.

@TrevorBramble: a notice in the README would be very appreciated if the maintainer(s) aren't going to merge pull requests or fix bugs.

I'm also interested, but there are 2,372 forks, and GitHub can't even display the list of them, so I guess there is no way to find out if anyone else is already carrying a fork forward. Kind of a shame to see this great theme...well, not stagnate, because the theme itself is basically done. But I think it would be very helpful to have an up-to-date central repo of Solarized resources. There are people making PRs here, but no one to merge them, so where do enthusiastic users go to share their Solarized stuff, other than blogs scattered all over?

For fellow GitHub users, allow me to share https://github.com/alphapapa/solarized-everything-css which has Solarized user-stylesheets for GitHub. Much easier on the eyes. :)
