App Icon #281
New icon is truly dreadful. Old icon was really excellent.
It's so bad I'm now looking for an alternative app for compress/decompress. New icon is unbelievably tacky.
Those are some strong views, especially as you are projecting your view onto all "people who own Macs". I own a Mac and I like the new icon, so you're not correct.
The new icon is by David Lanham, a very well known and respected designer.
But it's OK if you don't like it, because it's quite easy to replace the icon with your personal choice:
Have a nice day @smycroft
You need to read what I’ve written because your reply “your view onto all "people” when I’d said “People with Macs tend to care“. No need to exagerate to disagree.
And I did change the icon but the OS complains about it being a broken app and all it will do is move it to the trash.
Read the reviews on the app store where there are several reviews, many if which say how bad the new icon is - and that is unusual to see in app store reviews.
I had a lok at this well known and respected designers work and it is all not appropriate style for a Mac file compresion utility. all kids games type of stuff.
Hi @smycroft, the new icon received mostly positive feedback but I understand that it can't be good for everybody, you're not the first asking for the old one.
If you like to use the old one instead, you can use the method linked by @gingerbeardman, that consists in two steps:
Note that with this method you'll see the old icon in the app while browsing the Finder or while Keka is opened or kept in the Dock. Inside Keka or in the Notification Center you'll still see the new one. Changing the icon file inside de .app bundle is not possible since Keka is sandboxed and the macOS will report the bundle as broken.
Let me know if you still can't apply the old icon with this method.
