[BUG] after extraction the extracted file/folder is not selected in Finder  #986

Closed

Description

@gingerbeardman

Configuration

  • Keka version: 1.2.50 (4808)
  • macOS version: 11.6.1 (20G224)

Describe the bug

After extraction the archive is still selected which means I have to select the extracted file/folder before I can continue my work. This is different to when I use Archive Utility, which selects the extracted file/folder afterwards and allows me to continue working on the extracted file (such as opening it using the keyboard) without any extra effort.

To Reproduce

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Extract using Keka.app
  2. Archive is still selected in Finder

Compare:

  1. Extract using Archive Utility.app
  2. Extracted file/folder is selected in Finder

Expected behavior

  • behaviour should match Archive Utility.app

Screenshots

  • Archive Utility, The Unarchiver

Additional context

These apps match the behaviour of Archive Utility:

  • The Unarchiver

    @gingerbeardman do you have the option "Show content in Finder after extraction" enabled? It is enabled by default and should show the extraction contents.

    The real change here is that Keka shows the folder contents instead of only selecting it. If it is a file or bundle it selects it (same as BOM and TUA). I could add an option to select the folder instead of showing the contents.

    "Show content in Finder after extraction" is disabled for me, because I do not like new Finder windows being created on extraction.

    I understand. I'll change the behavior to select the folder instead of opening it for that option. Only when clicking on the notification will open the folder content. This will be more similar to macOS's current behavior.

    But you'll need to enable the check if you want Keka to do anything with the Finder 🤷🏻‍♂️

    @irvingtelder

    I have the option checked in Keka 1.2.50 prefs (macOS 12.1) and upon extraction the extracted file is NOT being shown.

    Edit: uninstalling and reinstalling seems to have fixed it.

    @gingerbeardman the behavior was changed in the latest release. Reopen if you see any issue.

    I already noticed it working more to my liking. Thanks!
