I don't know how this can happen. I should just reraise another more explicit error and put that ticket on hold to try to figure it out.

Oh, yay! I could reproduce the problem.

• Make a scan
• Apply a filter that would, for one of your group, include a dupe, but not the ref
• Go to Power Marker mode
• Select that dupe
• Perform Make Selected Reference... crash!

(from [161]) [#55 state:fixed] fixed a crash after makeReference when the action would make the dupe list smaller.
