Which unicode character do you have in mind? There are a number of triangle options http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/block/geometric_shapes/list.htm

That would be △ U+25B3 WHITE UP-POINTING TRIANGLE.

Also is there amath in mathjax

No.

You might want to file a separate issue/feature requst on the MathJax issue tracker to see if someone is interested in contributing one.

No, MathJax does not implement the auto-math recognition. You must mark the math explicitly using back-ticks (or whatever delimiters you specify in your configuration file).

Note also that you can add a symbols to AsciiMath yourself. E.g., put

<script type="text/x-mathjax-config">
MathJax.Hub.Register.StartupHook("AsciiMath Jax Config",function () {
  var AM = MathJax.InputJax.AsciiMath.AM;
  AM.symbols.push(
    {input:"/_\\", tag:"mo", output:"\u25B3", tex:"\\triangle", ttype:AM.TOKEN.CONST}
  );
});
</script>

before the script tag that loads MathJax.js itself.
