I would find this valuable. I think this would be an opporunity for a value added paid-for feature

This would be way cool. Perhaps similar to how private gists are managed (by link/url only)?

Would use this much more if this functionality existed

It should be very simple to implement, just don't post it on the asciinema.org. It would double the user base (at least) , think of all the people willing to share their terminal activities to only people they know..

@shpoont it is very simple to implement, yes. But I am yet to decide if this feature should be free. I'm leaning towards it being free but haven't made up my mind yet.

@sickill I would gladly pay for this feature.
Take my money

I'm going to chime in here as well. Paid privacy option seems like a great idea -- the lack of it will keep me from using this regularly at this time.

If private recordings (with access control and private sharing) was to be a paid feature would you prefer to pay:

  1. small amount monthly (premium subscription) or,
  2. a little more but as a one-time payment enabling premium features (also future ones) ?

As an individual consumer, I would prefer to pay monthly. However, I could see companies wanting a one time payment option.

The decision greatly depends on the actual prices e.g. $5 monthly vs. $10 one-time or $1 monthly vs. $20 one-time

Honestly, it would be better for you @sickill if it was a small amount monthly. $5, $10, even $20. Oh my goodness this would be such an incredibly useful feature, and it would be worth giving you an incentive to keep working on asciinema :)

If one hosted the asciinema.org code on a private server and then changed the url in the cli, wouldn't one have a private hosted version they could use within an organization?

+1, really waiting for this feature!
It would definitely expand your target market in the form of companies sharing top-secret terminal playbacks among their staff.

I would pay for this feature as well.

I'm with @fusiondog on this one. I'd just run a local copy as mentioned in the FAQ.

That's wonderful news! I am very thankful for this feature.

It appears that you did not introduce any paid model for this. I recommend you also think of a way to monetize asciinema's usage in the future to raise funds for further development. It's a cool project!

@hardipe Enjoy! No, no paid model this time. Maybe some day, we'll see. As for private asciicasts I realized that this is a really essential thing, and everyone who wants to try asciinema shouldn't be forced to auto-publish their first recordings.
